I had trouble sleeping 2 days ago. This hurricane thing is terrible. Not only does this show the incompetents of our government and leadership but also the dark state of the human psyche in our country. The poor people, who just happen to be mostly black, were neglected! The leaders knew some of these people didn’t have cars! They knew some of these people had no way of leaving the town! But did they bring buses or air planes to transport them? NO! They just left them their, to DIE! And then the leaders, such as Michael Brown from FEMA, have the nerve to refer to these people as “escaping the woodwork.” Those bastards! Why the hell did it take our national guard so long to help! Why is FEMA lacking the money they need! Oh that’s right, because these murdering bastards that run our country WAISTING our troops and money into this goddamn illegal war! And Bush sat on his plane pretending like he was doing something. Exploiting the situation to gain popularity. Are the American people still too goddamn stupid to be fooled by that bullshit? And some of these prominent coldhearted conservative and republican fuckers sit on their fat white asses, being broadcasted over fox news, discussing how much money this is going to cost the tax payers! You heartless sons of bitches! There are mothers, fathers, sons, babies, people struggling with suicidal thoughts, breathing shit and human decay, living outside in the cold bitter air, and all those bastards can do is discuss how much money it is going to cost them!?!?!?! Fuck them! And people wonder why I point fingers to them so much! Those assholes should get off their fat fucking asses and start fucking helping. All they do is just sit and tell good hearted progressive thinkers to stop pointing figures. Well you know what: we will keep pointing fingers until this bigoted, gay hating, woman right violating, conservative sack of shit is run out of this office!

By the way did you hear the bullshit spewing from Bush’s mouth during his press conference? “Err, help is on its way…err I understand they wanted help the last few days…err I can imagine the anxiety…no one knew the levee would break and the storm would be so bad… zero tolerance to looting…these people need to take personal responsibility” THEY SHOULD HAVE BROUGHT HELP FASTER! YOU DENYED FUNDING FOR THE LEVEE! HOW DARE YOU TELL PEOPLE NOT TO STILL FROM WAL-MART WHEN BABIES NEED DIAPERS AND STARVING FAMILES NEED FOOD!

Praises: my little 10 year old sister walked around her neighborhood asking money from door to door for the hurricane effort. I am so proud of her. And my other sister e-mailed the red crosses asking what she could do.

when we were talking about it, didn't you say that it was (and a quote)... "the storm that isn't really a hurricane...."(paraphrase)"If you're just making sure people don't die, you should look around more news than just the hurricane. People are dying everywhere"

you said it.

because, the media was comptely uninformed at the beganing of this storm. they down played the whole thing. they made it seem like it wasn't a big deal....until it was to late. they showed have been doing their jobs, and shown how the goverment was not preparing them selfs for this.

hmm, see molly and I were watching Fox News and we never doubted how big the storm was gonna be

it appears that only your "balanced" media sources are shitty

ours are fine

do you have any idea what your saying? fox news is clearly biased. before the hurrican hit the shore no one knew how big it was going to be.

plus, the dengenrates from your beloved fox news were debating about how much it would cost the tax payers of this country. they wanted to know when to draw the line. but hey, maybe no giving money to help out theese people are somthing your into.

The right claims the media is keft wing.

The left complains the media is right wing.

I'd say that makes it a pretty balanced media.

And they never tried to downplay the storm, homie. From day one they were covering it thoroughly and diligently. Now, however, they've kinda turned it into a circus, but that's what they do... 'more viewers'

First of all, the people there either had no way of leaving, or they figured it was a bullshit warning. They've heard it in the past; why would they think this time would be any better? AThe city couldn't just make people leave before the storm hit, and it probably couldn't afford to have buses take people away (additionally: when would they have had the opportunity to plan out where to take the pre-refugees?)

Secondly, you can't blame the federal government for the pace at which support arrived. Help was sent as soon as the severity of the hurricane was understood and it was safe to enter the area. While funds are short from the war, I doubt it would make too significant of a difference if they had a few more bucks.

Also, looting has become an issue there. The National Guard will turn a blind eye to those looting to survive, but the folks walking off with six pairs of Nikes aren't just trying to get by.

And where did you hear that funding was denied for the levees? As far as I know, the federal government has absolutely nothing to do with directing funding of individual cities. And the levees were fine before the storm.

The fact of the matter is that the storm caught everyone off guard. While I share your distaste for the administration, blaming them for the problems in the south isn't conducive to anything. You won't improve anything by becoming hostile to the people whom you are upset with for being hostile.

Just a few thoughts...

atucally, the federal goverment denyed funding for the leeve a number of times. the state kept asking for money, and a number of reports were written stating that it was dangours. but they never payed. and you do know that this administration compltely ingored FEMA don't ya? if the slow pace isn't the goverements fault then whose is it?

show me the sources stating the problems of the levees and the State of Louisiana's request for more money. I believe that a state has to raise its own money for things like that.

And how did the federal government ignore FEMA? What do you mean by that. Try to be a little more clear.

If you had to blame someone for the slow pace of the disaster efforts, I'd say blame Katrina

"Yet after 2003, the flow of federal dollars toward SELA dropped to a trickle. The Corps never tried to hide the fact that the spending pressures of the war in Iraq, as well as homeland security -- coming at the same time as federal tax cuts -- was the reason for the strain. At least nine articles in the Times-Picayune from 2004 and 2005 specifically cite the cost of Iraq as a reason for the lack of hurricane- and flood-control dollars."

"A year ago the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers proposed to study how New Orleans could be protected from a catastrophic hurricane, but the Bush administration ordered that the research not be undertaken."

"In early 2001, the Federal Emergency Management Agency issued a report stating that a hurricane striking New Orleans was one of the three most likely disasters in the U.S., including a terrorist attack on New York City. But by 2003 the federal funding for the flood control project essentially dried up as it was drained into the Iraq war. In 2004, the Bush administration cut funding requested by the New Orleans district of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for holding back the waters of Lake Pontchartrain by more than 80 percent. Additional cuts at the beginning of this year (for a total reduction in funding of 44.2 percent since 2001) forced the New Orleans district of the Corps to impose a hiring freeze. The Senate had debated adding funds for fixing New Orleans' levees, but it was too late."
